How often do you notice your mood getting worse because of little things, like traffic or a minor disagreement with your significant other? It probably happens more often than you’d like, and this negative outlook can put you on the fast track to burnout. It’s surprisingly easy to let little things drag you down. Luckily, it’s also fairly easy to put them in perspective.

This exercise is based on a pretty popular idea of shifting your perspective from the small and ultimately insignificant things to the broader picture.

When you find yourself bogged down in all the little things that have gone wrong in your day, stop and ask yourself two questions:

1. What if today were the last day of my life?

2. How would I want to spend my day if it were my last?
